Danny Casale or better known as his animator name Coolman Coffeedan, is a 23 year old animator from the United States of America. He was born in Glen Cove, New York on October 24th 1995 and is currently living in New York City (NYC). Later on in his childhood, he moved to Brooklyn and studied film at Pace University.
He first started drawing all the way back in 2012 when he was just 16, his first public post was and still on his Instagram. The first drawing he posted was of a small, happy creature on July 12th 2012. Throughout the years he have developed his art into a much simpler style than he once had. Before he got into animating, the sort of drawings he would do would be of strange creatures or characters from TV shows he enjoyed made just a little bit disturbing.
I would say it would be around the beginning of 2016 is where he found the style he loves so much and uses all the time, even in his Instagram stories. Even though the style is very simplistic and there is not much detail or depth to the art, his animations have been praised by many and he has become a huge influence to other animators out there. His animations have been given the title of ‘Crudely drawn’, ‘Surreal’ and ‘Humorous’.
Posted on 16th April, this was his very first character he made. Posted with the caption of ‘Self-Portrait’. This is the style he has kept with ever since, using the same lines and face with slight variations for most of his characters. Even though simple, they are very impactful especially in the animations as they question a lot about life and send help to people but are feeling down in any sense of the word. As Dan is down to Earth and just like everyone else, he is able to post ‘relatable content’ that can actually reach out to people and make those out there alone feel like they have a friend or someone who understands them at least.

This is the link to his very first animation which he never actually finished. This was only an experiment, and a failed one at that, that he produced in his first few months of living in New York City. There is no plans for him to ever finish it, even though he has had it for five years now. He has also dabbled in other creative endeavours such as using photoshop to make surrealist art and using it to create filters or edits of himself, he’s also used photography a lot in his Instagram feed. His photography has a vintage aesthetic look to them whilst still being quirky with his own personal touch.
Because he has so much success on his Instagram, made a YouTube account with the same name Coolman Coffeedan. His channel currently has 562,924 subscribers and pulls in on average around 120 thousand views per video. His videos have even made it onto the trending page a few times.
